Yummy House Owner on to something big for Florida!

John Zhao, 35, says he’s been in the restaurant business for 24 years. Not legally he hasn’t, but he started working at a tender age in restaurant kitchens in Belize, going on to debut Yummy House on Waters Avenue in Tampa in 2008 at the age of 28.

In August, he aims to unveil something all new: the Tampa Bay area’s first authentic pan-Asian noodle house. Yummy Bowl and Asian Noodle Bar will follow a Chipotle-like model: Pick your noodles (Korean, Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese), pick your ingredients (vegetables, chicken, beef or seafood) and then select your broth.

Zhao has already proved himself expert at building a brand: His Hillsborough Avenue Yummy House Bistro opened in 2011, a Sarasota outpost launched in 2012, Gainesville in 2013, Ocala in 2014 and Orlando will open in June. He says Tampa is a great area for trying out a new concept.

“I’ve been looking for an Asian noodle bar concept for at least five years, but I haven’t been 100 percent ready. My dream has always been a bigger concept. I want to launch a good concept that can open up everywhere.”
